So i have a some extra time at work and i thought i would do a little entry. I work at channel 4 and, if anyone is looking for a job that works around your school schedule pretty well, i think we are about to hire a new photographer. Just food for thought. I have 2 mid-terms to take tomorrow which should be fun. I have the reviews finished, but i don't get off till 1 so it looks like it will be a late night. You'll know why i'm lethargic tomorrow. I haven't been able to go to Palo Duro in a long time and i think i'm gunna suffer from withdraws. I can feel myself becoming less and less productive the less active i become. Hopefully this cold windy weather will cease and i can get back to it.

Saw this and thought it was pretty funny...see ya'll tomorrow.

Just one of those days

I hate Mondays, and I’m particularly grumpy today. So grumpy in fact that I don’t want to blog because I feel like if I don’t have anything nice to say, I shouldn’t say anything at all!!

How much fun was Friday? I had to truck it to work in the morning but was shortly after sent home and stayed there for the rest of the day. I was itching to get out and do something (I am not a home-body and have a constant need to do things!) but in the end we ordered pizza and watched movies. Saturday was exciting as well, my sister and cousin has their birthday party. My sister, Brandi, turned 15, and my cousin, Danielle, turned 16. It was a lot of fun. They made all their friends wear black and white, while they wore black and teal dresses. And the cakes were amazing! I’ll post pictures later. Sunday I helped my grandma move into her new house (for which she was very grateful) and then spent the rest of the evening with my charming boyfriend.

Okay, the craziest thing just happened. At work, I have a clear view of I-40 and the access road from my desk. Next to our building they are doing construction and some plastic material (about the size of a car but flimsy) blew out onto the road. There was a motorcyclist going by and as he was trying to avoid the plastic he skid and fell off. He was going about 40-45 mph. I just looked out onto the road and saw him lying on the street with the motorcycle next to him. Scary! He laid there for a few moments but thankfully, stumbled to his feet. The police and ambulance are here now and all looks well.

Well, I have to finish throwing my fit and being grumpy and this isn't helping much. Have a great week bloggers.

Finally Back

Hey guys....long time no blog.

Hope everyone had an awesome Spring break and a good first week back.
I started a new job over the break and had to work from 5pm-1am everyday of the break so I didn't get anything else done really. Its not that bad though...I actually enjoy the work and thats a plus. How many people built a snowman yesterday? I don't think I was inside for more than an hour once it started coming down. My friends and I took the dogs to the park and dog sleded for hours and then had the classic snowball fight. I burnt the rest of my firewood too because I doubt we get another snow like that this year. These puppys that my dogs had are getting huge and running all over the house....it's weird though, they already use the dog door to go to the bathroom so its really not that big of a deal. Well I gotta go shower for work but i'll catch you guys later.

Have a good weekend.

There is nothing better than a cup of coffee on a snowy day.

WOW look at that snow!!! Can you believe it? as I hear it there is still a lot more to come, we haven't even been hit by the eye of the storm yet. Fun stuff. No work boss called me at noon yesterday and we're closed which is good, because I have a lot to think about right now.

I went the Extreme Entrepreneurship Tour yesterday, it was completely amazing and awe-inspiring! I'm telling you if you didn't go really missed out on something spectacular! I can't say enough good things about the tour and these guys who came to speak to us.

After the EETour yesterday it really got me thinking that I don't do enough with photoshop skill that I have and people the people I know who are into marketing and promotion around amarillo.

hm... I have to think more about this.

HAPPY SNOW DAY! HA!
Happy hump day. I actually don’t mind it being Wednesday. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel (aka the weekend)... and it’s beautiful, full of snow, but still, beautiful.

I have issues with some people. Particularly other governments and countries but obviously there’s nothing I can do about it. Here’s the scoop: a woman was on a plane from Samoa to Auckland when she gave birth to a baby girl in the bathroom. Of course, she left the baby in the toilet trashcan and when the flight landed, walked off like nothing happened. Thankfully, she has gone to the hospital and got her self all fixed up! Thankfully- for the world- she is going to be okay! THANKFULLY, the flight attendants found the baby- alive- and called the police. The baby is fine now, and the mother has been charged with child abandonment, and child assault. At maximum, she will face 7 years in prison for her precious deed. Here’s the best part, the mother “was later reunited with her baby”. Don’t believe me? Here’s the story:

Ohh, I received my income tax last week! You see, last summer I decided that I should get a credit card to start building myself credit. It worked out well for a few months, I bought a Wii to get the ball rolling and just made payments on that. THEN, I turned 21 in October and… well… the partying started. I dug myself into about $2000 of debt between the trip to Las Vegas, Texas Tech vs. TX game, Giants game, Christmas, etc. I basically woke up in January and decided to get it under control, and faithfully, I’ve been working to pay off my debt. My income tax helped me bring it down to a manageable amount. The trick is, you won’t be able to start building any credit until you have a credit history and it is reported to the credit agencies and in turn adjust your credit score. You have to be modest. For example, if you have a credit card with a credit limit of $1000, you should not use more than 30% of that. Credit cards can hurt you but can also be very helpful. Credit is good to have in case of emergencies and of course to build your credit. However, (and if you have a credit card you know what I’m talking about) when you go to use your credit card it feels amazing because it FEELS free, and you continue to use it .. over and over…

But nonetheless, be responsible, don’t be afraid, get credit, use it modestly, and build your credit score!!

Well, 5 o’clock is almost here, (yay). Have a great night, American Idol is on 7!!

Wow! It’s been like two weeks since I’ve blogged anything and it feels likes only been a few hours! I have been busy in a MAJOR way here lately.

Here’s what has been going on…

I have been trying to write two articles at the same time.  One is for The Ranger about a student who has been living out of his car not because he has to, but because he is choosing to.  This guy has great story, be looking out for that in a about a week or so.

The other article I am working on is for the AC Current – the magazine – about Jen Williams.  That’s right my blog entry has gained a little interest enough for me to write and official story about it! I am pretty excited about this story also.  Let me tell you this girl works hard – she is always on the phone talking to people trying to get good musicians to Amarillo!  In fact there is show tonight at THE REFUGE with The Wedding  – great band be sure to check then out.  That’s tonight at 6 at the refuge!!!

What else is going on…

OH!

The Extreme Entrepreneurship Tour this THURSDAY!! YAY! I am really excited about this and I am definitely attending.  My parents started their own business when I was in High School and it has really paid off for them so I am a believer in the taking chances and starting your own business. You’d be surprised what you can accomplish with enough hard work and ambition.  As I understand it the itinerary says there will be a time for networking so get those business cards ready this will be a good opportunity to make connections and advance your career.  If you’re ready for success then you should think very hard about showing up for this event.

THURSDAY FROM 3:00 – 7:00

AC POLK STREET CAMPUS

PREPARE TO HAVE YOU MIND BLOWN AWAY!!!!

now its time to start applying for transfer schools
Spring break is over- blah. Back to school, back to the routine… This is the last stretch of the semester, 52 days until graduation!!

Personally, I love basketball but I cannot wait for March Madness to be over. Every time I go to my dad or boyfriend’s house… what’s on… basketball. And all the ladies know what I’m talking about, when basketball is on- you are not there. I can handle a couple games but since the tournament is just beginning there are so many games on, at all hours, throughout the entire day. What can I say, girls love attention and don’t enjoy basketball hogging it all. Oh well, it’s only 3 weeks long, I guess I’ll live.

Ok well, I’ve only lost 10 pounds since January but I’m hoping that if I continue to work out (not so difficult) and eat healthy (very difficult) we can make that 10 to 20 by graduation. I’m off to the gym now… cardio. Yay. Have a great week bloggers!!

Almost there...

I am so ready for Spring break. It is getting harder and harder to get my work completed each day and i'm not really doing anything that special. I have to study for an advertising test tonight and after that... I should be home free. I have always had a really hard time getting back into the school groove after this particular break. This year i'm going to try to come back on top instead of falling behind and having to play catch up. I suppose we'll see. All of my friends are going outta town so I'll have plenty of time to catch up on some stuff i've been needing to do. I've been thinking about spending a few days in Dallas and

Pizza guy's here...i'll get back to ya'll

And so ends the weekend

3/09/2009 12:11:00 AM 0 comments

It's been a really good weekend. I started out by changing the oil in my motorcycle. It was the first time I've ever done it so it was a learning experience to say the least haha. I had such a good time that I cleaned out my entire garage and built a workshop. I put up pegboard for all my tools and built two workbenches. I also found a permanent spot for my table saw and radial arm saw. I have an old motorcycle I bought about two years ago for $200 that doesn't run. I had planed on fixing it up and selling it but, never got around to it. I put it in the garage and I'm gunna try to have it at least starting up by the end of Spring break. Wish me luck.

My puppies opened their eyes for the first time yesterday. They finally found out that they aren't bound to their den so, the next few weeks should be hectic.

I saw today that some teenager has created downloadable software that allows you to transfer music from YouTube videos into an iTunes-ish music playing system. This allows music for free which is really cool. I'm not sure how long this will be allowed but, I'll try to find out the site.

See ya Monday morning....

Ahh, it's Friday

What a week, what an amazing, incredible, productive week.

I’m officially starting the graduation countdown: 70 days! I’ve been having trouble applying of graduation. I applied last year because I was going to be an over-achiever and take a full load of summer classes (yeah right) and I’ve re-applied this semester twice and I hadn’t received any confirmation about anything? Apparently, if you’ve applied before you have a “file” and you need to call AC and they can check it out for you. I love AC, but I’m ready to be finished. (FYI: Deadline to apply is April 23 but if you’re as eager as I am, you applied the first day of the semester).

I’m bummed that I couldn’t make it to John Walsh’s lecture last night. He’s a great guy and I heard that it was standing room only in the theater. I’m curious to know what he spoke about…

I can’t wait to see what the weekend holds for me. Most likely it will include laundry soap, a mop, and a scrubby brush… but I’m hopeful!

Don’t forget, $1 beer at Ruby Tequila’s, see ya there.
Hey ya'll...long time no blog.

Not to sound like Hank Hill but, it has been one helluva week I tell ya what. My great grandma broke her hip going to breakfast on Monday so I had to go to the ER way earlier than I would have like to have been awake. This, of course, caused me to miss a test. Oh well, it should be alright. Aside from that its just been the same ol' same ol' of running around trying to fit everything that needs to be done in a 24 hour day.

This wind has also been killing me....the worst thing about West Texas. I wanted to play golf, ride my motorcycle, and play basketball but, I almost got blown off the road, the basketball flew half a foot from where I would shoot it, and golf...well, golfers know how fun it is to play in the wind.

I went into the administrative building today to check out some scholarship opportunities and I was surprised how many are available to AC students. Everyone should really check it out but, make haste because a lot of the deadlines are coming up.

Another interesting thing I saw...one of my classmates posted a thing on the web ct news writing page that Don't Mess With Texas is looking for some faces for their campaign and, I believe they are coming here. (Nice info. Sam.) So if anyone thinks they are up to that it might be worth checking out.

In the somewhat words of Ron Burgundy...

Stay classy Amarillo College

NOTE:  This blog entry is based upon a rumor I heard today.  It may or may not be true - so I don't want to see any comments like get the facts first, you don't know what you're doing, this is not real reporting none of this true - duh like I said its based on a rumor and this a blog. Watch me blog now.

So I heard a rumor today that some of the labs on campus (specifically 4th floor parcells hall) will be getting upgrades very soon. Good news right? Wrong, apparently some of the labs will be upgraded from Macs to PC, meaning Windows. Very bad idea.

I don't know what lab or how many, but its what I heard from quite a few different sources.

So here's what's going to happen.  A student is going to enroll in Mass Communications Ad/PR (great major if I do say so myself ha ha).  This student will go to AC for about 2 years and get their associates degree and the whole time they are here they will be trained to use PC's/Windows platform.

Let's say this student decides to transfer to, say, WT.  The day this student gets their acceptance letter to WT they will instantly fell behind all of the other students. Why? because this student doesn't know how to use a Mac; whereas all the other students at the exact same level who have been at WT,  while our student has been at AC, have learned how to use them (macs) well.  The professors I'm sure will expect the students use and to already know basics of Mac if not much more than that.  I know that WT students in Mass Comm use Macs a lot!

IF THIS RUMOR IS CORRECT THEN....

(And I hope for the sake of future AC students it is not)

AC students in Mass Comm/Graphic Design/etc. will not be fully prepared to transfer to a University.  Well what if they go straight in to the workforce after AC, then what? well more and more businesses are using Mac  because they are more secure, user friendly, great for creative departments - knowing how to use a Mac is practically required before anyone will take you seriously in Advertising or any mass comm field. Thus, AC will not be preparing students for the workforce either.

Also maybe (if the rumor is true) AC should get a new slogan like "where the students come right after the budget" to think AC would sacrifice such a huge staple in Mass Comm and/or Graphic Design just save a few extra bucks makes me glad I got here while its still easy to find a Mac on the 4th floor of parcell's hall - they might become relics around there before too long.

I'll close with this... an "apple" may be an "apple" anywhere you go, but will AC's "apple" taste as sweet as the Universities "apple"????

(Once again let me say everything above is based on a rumor I have heard from multiple sources as of 11:45pm on 3/3/09 the rumor has no been confirmed or denied.)

A new start

In case you haven’t seen or heard, the Ruby Tequila’s on Paramount is now closed… awww. No sad faces though; they’re relocating to Georgia across the street from Hastings… yay! My family and I went to the Paramount location on Sunday, its last day of business, to reminisce and reflect on the great times we’ve had there. You see, my dad was the General Manager there for a few years and during that time, we ate a lot of Ruby’s! The new location will open up on March 9, and I haven’t been inside the building yet, but the outside looks great. Also, did you know that they have March Madness? What’s March Madness you say… a plethora of discounts and $1 beer during the month of March. Also, it’s a huge promotion for the MDA, Jerry’s Kids. Okay, I probably sound like a commercial by now, but hey, my dad’s livelihood depends on this restaurant- so go people and eat Ruby’s!!

Ohh, this weekend was great. If anybody is following me on twitter you heard about my Friday night drama (my mother!!). I won’t share all that info on here but it was crazy. Saturday, my work had a bowling tournament for the Children’s Miracle Network. It was a lot of fun, but I’m a terrible bowler! That night I had dinner at Napoli’s (which is very yummy), and it’s very romantic. I would definitely suggest that as a date place. (FYI, the stuffed mushrooms are amazing- especially that sauce). It was an “Acapulco’s Night” weekend so I met a bunch of my friends up there salsa’d my heart out (every other weekend, Acapulco’s hosts “Acapulco’s Night”, and has a DJ come in and play Latino music). Sunday was a lazy day, as I’m sure it is for everybody.

I have a test today, yay.

I need to take my dog to the vet, any suggestions where?

Also, I need to get new glasses, again, suggestions?

I hope my bloggers have an incredible week!!
